President's Message

The Mortgage Bankers and Brokers Association of New
Hampshire, Inc. (MBBA-NH) is alive and well during a time of
historical significance in the mortgage finance industry.
We are a vibrant and active trade association in New
Hampshire with 175 company members.
As the elected
MBBA-NH president for the 2007 – 2008 year, I am looking
forward to sharing my industry knowledge and vision with
others in New Hampshire. My year, as president, will focus
on two initiatives: educating individuals in the mortgage
finance industry and emphasizing the importance of
maintaining high ethical standards. One of the ways I will
accomplish this is through the systematic promotion of our
Certified Mortgage Professional designation, a symbol of
competency, experience, and ethics.
Recently we have been informed by New
Hampshire Banking Commissioner Peter Hildreth that he will
soon be introducing legislation that will mandate loan
originator licensing. The licensing will not require
continuing education and loan originators who work for a
community bank will be exempt from the bill. MBBA-NH
supports this legislation, in fact, several years ago we
proposed legislation to license loan originators with an
educational requirement, but the legislators did not support
it because there were not enough consumer complaints filed
at that time.
The coming months will be difficult for our industry, and
the need for networking events and education are needed more
than ever! MBBA-NH’s fall program schedule includes:
Monthly Network at Nights; Course 1: An Introduction to
Mortgage Finance; a seminar on fraud, privacy, and ethics;
VA seminar; and a seminar on how to originate commercial
loans.
Even
though these are not the best of times in the mortgage
finance industry, you can rest assured that MBBA-NH is here
not only for its members but for the borrowers they serve.
Recently, MBBA-NH sent out a press release that said, “Our
members choose to join and support MBBA-NH for its industry
education and information, networking, legislative
oversight, and code of ethics. So the next time you need a
mortgage, choose one of our members from the directory on
our Web site, www.mbba-nh.org."
We will continue to support our members in any way we can in
the coming months; please call us for assistance!
Sincerely,
Gladys White
