President's Message
MBBA-NH
President:

Last year (2009) brought sweeping changes to the mortgage
finance industry. Loan originators who are employed by
either a mortgage banker or mortgage broker are required to
be licensed. MBBA-NH saw this mandate coming and quickly
positioned itself to be able to support its members by
offering the NMLS 20 Hour SAFE Pre-Licensing course.
Thank you to the Education/Programs Committee Chairperson
Joe Moriarty and all of our volunteer instructors for making
the course a success. Another thank you goes to all the160
loan originators who chose to support their association by
attending our course, and a final thank you to New Hampshire
Housing for providing the course location.
With regard to legislation affecting our industry, the
legislative committee has experienced some recent success.
Last summer they were able to keep the state legislature
from adding a mortgage refinance tax, which was introduced
to help fill the state’s budget gap. However, we were
recently told by our lobbyist that this sort of tax may be
brought up, again. Of course, we’ll be ready to take action,
since our industry is already taxed enough, and why take a
chance on a tax that may further prolong this lackluster
real estate market we’re currently experiencing.
During the summer and into the fall, the association’s
public relations committee developed a continuing education
course on mortgage finance for Realtors. The course received
an overwhelming response from the Realtors. Five sessions
were offered at New Hampshire Housing (Thank You, New
Hampshire Housing!), educating over 350 Realtors. The public
relations committee will continue to develop Realtor courses
to not only keep them current on mortgage finance issues,
but also to further nurture our relationship with them.
Change is a constant in our industry, and your association
will be there for you to ease the burden that change brings.
Beginning in January and throughout the year, we will offer
many opportunities for loan originators to fulfill their
eight (8) continuing education credits. Realtor courses will
continue to be developed by our public relations committee,
and our very active legislative committee will have a laser
focus on any impending legislation that will create a
hardship in our industry.
Please remember that your association is made up of all of
you. We continue to be strong but still need you to get
involved. Have you ever thought about joining a committee,
help develop a continuing education course, or teach a
course? Do you want to meet all kinds of people in the
mortgage finance industry in New Hampshire, learn how to
work as a team, be part of successful brainstorming
sessions, or give back to the local community like
Liberty House? Your
association provides a perfect opportunity for you to grow
professionally as well as personally. Take the first step.
