Education Committee

Education Committee has spent many hours this year discussing industry education, how to deliver NMLS courses and what topics are of interest to our members.  What topics interest you? Please email your ideas to the MBBA-NH office, your input is greatly appreciated and will be kept confidential.  MBBA-NH has a long history and commitment to training new and seasoned mortgage finance professionals.  We are considering revising the old Course I and II program for new industry people.  In the past we have used Hondros Learning to provide text books and course material for the 20 hour SAFE pre-licensing class. This partnership with Hondros has been expanded to include the 8 hour SAFE course material, saving our instructors hundreds of hours each year developing new course content and power point presentations.

Online 20 hour SAFE PE and 8 hour SAFE CE is now available through MBBA-NH.  We have established a fee sharing agreement with Hondros Learning for those of you who find Online training more attractive.  A link to Hondros online course offerings is listed on the MBBA-NH homepage. The cost is competitive with other quality providers and includes; a text book and fee to upload NMLS credits. Link to NMLS Online education.

On-Site company NMLS 8 Hour SAFE training is available to MBBA-NH member companies at a reduced group rate. The rate includes text books and fee to upload NMLS credits.  email the MBBA-NH office for information.

Legislative and EthicsState House

No Ethics complaints received year to date by my office.

Congratulations to Robert Blaisdell for becoming a partner in Demers & Blaisdell, Inc. our legislative Lobbyist.  The legislative committee met with James Demers and Tom Prasol to review the proposed bills that might affect the mortgage finance industry in the spring legislative session.  Click here for the list of bills on our watch list.  Each week Demers and Blaisdell, Inc. emails a list of bills and dates of committee meetings for the following week.  This usually requires a member of the committee to be present and have testimony prepared if needed. As a bill or amendment is being discussed in committee and perhaps negotiated with other parties to the bill.  It is difficult to comment about MBBA-NH involvement until settled. Our committee members represent the MBBA-NH and not their personal interests.

Governor John Lynch has concerns regarding foreclosures in New Hampshire. Prior to a meeting with the Governor and Council. Bank Commissioner Wilbur agreed to met with our legislative committee and James Demers to discuss servicing complaints by New Hampshire residents related to their forclosure process and remedys. Members of the Bank Department staff included Council, Mary Jurda and Community Outreach, Richard Arcand. New laws may have to go on the books, but Commissioner Wilbur would like to see if there is a way to approach without creating new legislation.

Transitional Licensing proposal: At the MBBA-NH Mortgage Conference, Chelsea Crucitti of the National MBA talked about MBA’s research and draft Transitional License proposal.  Currently a loan officer moving from registered to licensed registration within NMLS must halt origination duties and suffer loss of income until all educational and testing requirements to be licensed are complete.  This can take 120 days or longer before they are able to start taking loan applications and building a new income stream.   The MBBA-NH does not see a problem with conflicting with the SAFE Act, it is an unintended consequence of the SAFE Act creating a gap of income for good experienced registered loan officers to move to a licensed loan originating company (in the reverse order from licensed to registered there is no gap). In many cases these individuals are leaving the industry because of this income loss gap.  In order to change the culture of our industry and have a more professional brand we have a need for a transitional system where an experienced loan officer is able to move from one entity to another without hardship or income loss.  MBBA-NH is considering drafting a Transitional Licensing amendment, to be reviewed by the Banking Department and introduced through the Commerce Committee.

Membership Committee

We are always looking to increase our membership.  If your company uses or is contacted by vendors that are not a member of MBBA-NH  please insist they become a member and support your trade association.  Congratulations to Barret Elliot of Birchwood Credit for taking over as Chair of the Membership Committee and Traci Dexter of Accurate Title as co-chair.  Barret and Traci are available to follow up on your leads, providing assistance to contact potential members.  They will also help out with membership and Preferred Corporate Partner renewals.  If you are interested in membership development, please contact my office.

Public Realtions

Realtor 3 hour CEU training: MBBA-NH has a 3 hour CEU approved class in the states of NH, ME and 2 hours in VT.  The PR committee has presented this training to hundreds of Realtors in the last few years and continues to schedule with Local Boards throughout the state.

Now the PR committee wants to build a library of CEU approved Realtor courses that our members have developed.  We want to partner with presenters of approved classes to help you reach out to more real estate agents. We will then assist you in the marketing and scheduling of MBBA-NH endorsed classes.

If you have an approved real estate class please provide the PR Committee with the course approval letter, course outline, and your biography. Once the course has been reviewed and endorsed by the PR Committee, we will work with you to look for opportunities to present the class. Winwin!!

Calling all Writers

Avenues Articles – Patricia McKerley and Lucy Lange Gappens from the Union Leader presented the
new look of the UL Avenue online website. They will be looking to industry partners to provide content
on a regular basis. They are looking to have news feed come directly from industry websites. It was
suggested that MBBA create a landing page on its website for information we want directed to the UL
Avenues website.

We are always looking for residential lending-related articles for the “Avenues” real estate supplement in the “NH Union Leader”. Some topics would include; Trigger Leads, CMP Certification, APR vs interest rate. All material must be original and not something being published elsewhere, or if it has been reproduced, must have the permission of the original writer and site them as the author.

I would like to thank Eric Boucher of Northway Bank for submitting 3 articles.

E-Mail Barbara Cunnigham or Steve Bauer at the Board office for more information
